I'm not sure if I have one of the famous 1982 D pennies, but I believe I found a remarkable error. I found bubbling in between the R U in TRUST. I cleaned it to make sure that it wasn't gunk. All feedback is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
There's only one famous 1982-D small date copper penny. But if you have a gram scale you could weigh it to check.
I just gently rubbed the surface with a hypoallergenic baby wipes so I could see things better. I know better than to clean them with anything I wouldn't use on my skin.
The one that weighs 3.11 g is a copper, while the 2.5 g is a zinc. Check if they are small date or large date. And in case you ask, copper is more valuable, and small date is more valuable. Worth Just a few cents more though.
1982 was the last year for Copper Cents. They started using Copper Blanks then later in the year they switched over to Copper plated Zinc Planchets. Thus the difference in weight.
The small date 1982-D zinc is not worth a few cents more. .01 cent value. Only the Philly small dates in zinc or copper in excellent condition carry a premium. So much misinformation about this 1 year Lincoln cent.
Ones heavier than the other! Lol I believe there are 6 or 7 varieties for that year and the make you rich one is a 82 D copper 3.1 gram small date which has a swan type 2!
