Have been quarter roll hunting for 3 years. Mainly look for silver and W quarters. Just finished 2 boxes and found 1 W War in the Pacific. However I did see a number of 82 and 83 quarters. Have read some articles that say one should keep these as the mint didn’t put any of them in the sets they sold. Question Is there really a market for them? What say you CRH?
You read correctly, no gov. issued mint sets those years. Philly and Denver did issue Souvenier sets that they sold in their gift shops. The ones to save from CRHing are the truly high quality pieces. I don't think there is a market for circulated pieces. My advice would be to set aside a roll or two of each date and mint and up grade the rolls, coin by coin.
there's a slight market on ebay for them, there's some folks that piece together a roll from circulation of 1982 or 1983, P or D, or mixed mintmarks but always a solid year per roll. those rolls sell from around $15-$20 each so you make $5 or $10 of pieced together rolls from hunting just by saving them up. it's not big money, but something to turn a $10 into $15 or $20..... no idea why, but people buy them for 35 cents to 50 cents each in a roll format I guess hoping to find spitting eagle, DDO for 1982 or an overlooked high grade example I suppose... the real money would be in the 1982 or 1983 in higher grade BU though.
I have come across many over years of searching but most were not worth saving because of wear and tear. I have saved a few rolls but they are mostly AU or so.
The 82 and 83 quarters have value in high grades, as those are very difficult to find. Normal circulated 82 and 83 quarters are not rare and worth a quarter.
