Wow...So many ERRORS? I am new here and am wondering how you would class this Susan B. Anthony 1980 S - Error that came in a uncirculated set? See the feet on the Eagle are missing and other errors? Any idea on how to class this? Thanks...Mike
Grease filled die or struck through grease. Nice example! As for value, we'll have to wait for others to have a look.
It sure can. Uncirculated only means the condition the coin is in. Uncirculated sets were put together to stay out of circulation, but they are minted the same way as circulation coins. Since grease filled errors happen when the coin is minted It could happen to any coin at any time regardless.
Can you post a pic of the defects you're referring to? Errors are defects or damage that occur during the minting process. When it happens after the coin has left the mint, it is called PMD - Post Mint Damage. PMD are not errors.
"EvilkidsMeal" ...now that I typed that name right....Lol! Yep...I see what you mean...But, I am still wondering what the value is? How in the #$%# did you com up with that name? Sweet!!!
I will try Saturday...This set came sealed from the mint (Uncirculated Sealed). All the damage you see is sealed in and has never been opened.
Yes, it's true. As for value of the OP's SBA. These are not the most popular of coins and given the fact that it's only a grease filled die strike through, I would speculate a very small premium for the coin at perhaps $5.00 over what a normal 1980-S SBA would bring. Whether or not it's in the mint packaging would, IMO, not add any additional premium unless the OP could find two mint set collector's that focus on Mint Set's with error's to bid it up in an auction. But thats just my opinion. For the "Mint Set Only" IKE above, I paid $12 plus $5.00 S&H which for a 1973-D is just not that much of a premium. But............I needed it for my "Unusual Eisenhower's PCGS Showcase since 1973 Eisenhower error's are difficult to find. http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/showcase.aspx?sc=333
Grease-filled dies are so common that there really is no premium attached to them unless you find a few bidiots on FleaBay. Oh, and of course, there are those people looking for specific errors for their Registry Sets who will pay a little more, too!:i-wave-hi: Chris
Yep...I see what the "Grease" filled die is all about. A Big Thanks! to "All" that helped me find out about my SBA that I have had for so many years. I would not sell it for any amount. She is a coin I will pass on to my grand Kids. A Big Thanks again!!!
