Hi everyone, I was looking through some of my dollars and was pretty surprised to see what looks to be doubling "IN GOD WE TRUST", doubling on a star at the bottom by the date, and on the reverse on "STATES", the A seems to have notching. I would really love some feedback on this and if it is a double die what value would this bring. I am posting pictures I took; I must admit, I am still very unskilled at taking descriptive pictures. Thank you for any feedback. Take care I tried to localize the picture, and what I see is notching especially on the "I" in god we trust. I am going to try and use a digital camara and a loupe and see if I can get a better quality picture. I really appreciate everyone's advice.
Since that is a scan, try increasing the DPI and cropping the part you want us to see. enlargeing it in a paint program will just pixilate it and decrease image quality,
I have another one just like it, doubling barely detectable to the naked eye... I'm going to do some research and I'll see what I can find out.
Seriously, @penny39, would you pay anything extra to have that, even if everything you just said about it is true? You people chasing these big dreams of striking it rich off error coins ought to every now and then take a look at the price guides on some of these on the websites of the experts who classify them as errors and promote them as such and compare same to the non-existent market on them, and get a clue from that. Now don't nobody here go all bent-out-of-shape on me simply because I'm trying to teach this guy if it's wealth he's looking for in these freakish errors, he's in for a long wait, even if they are errors. Rather, collect these for the thrill of finding, identifying and appreciating them for what they are, in spite of the fact the vast, vast, vast bulk of them don't command any market premium, whatever, and you'll never go wrong.
It's probably the very common form of 'ejection doubling/mechanical doubling' that you're seeing. Not a doubled die -
