Here are my two 1979 Susan B Anthony dollars. 1979-D: It has a number of hits in the eyebrow, nose, upper lip, and jawline/chin. Heh, they kind of make it look like she has facial hair. Outside of that it looks to be a decent strike. Does the hits take it out of MS range? Here was my guess: MS61; NUM - $2; USACB - N/A; PCGS - $5... Not worth much but may be able to get a little over face value. 1979-P: This one is a little better without so many hits. I put at MS62; NUM - $2.50; USACB - N/A; PCGS - $5.
Yea, that was my first thought but then I started looking through USA Coin Book and ebay sold and saw a bunch of them selling for a little bit more.
Not long ago the bank called me and said they received a big supply of them and wanted to know if I wanted them.
I think the Tresuary Dept has like 888 million dollar coins in storage. People don't want them, so banks don't order them. The majority are Pres. dollars, 2nd is Sac's, and third is SBAs. These number do vary from one site to another, but still a lot of coins.
Very common and definitely spenders. The mint is still storing these coins as no one wants them. They tried years ago to sell a sealed $100 face bag for $110 and still couldn’t get rid of them.
I have at least 1000 Mint State President, Sacagawea and SBA dollars that I have accumulated. I put some in my pocket when I go to the golf course. They make good tips for the snack bar. They are only worth one dollar each.
I hear what you all are saying and it all makes sense to me. However, while I can't explain why, some people do appear to buy them for more than $1. Completed Ebay listings - A lot are high grade and special varieties but there are also a number of just plain circulated coins that went between $2 and $4. I guess it just depends on how cheaply they can be shipped. Also some on usacoinbook as well.
