Considering the rest of the coin, that would be my guess as well...

Once upon a time it was a star... Decades later it wore down :depressed:

The flow lines surrounding it are still visible and suggests more than simple wear. :)

I think, there is another cousin, just maybe, to that one posted here around 2 or 3 months ago. Pretty sure 79D, heavily circulated, slight class II appearing spread, pretty cruddy pix and dismissed as wear.

You want to find it and compare to yours. I ended up looking through no less than 500 79D's and found yet another relative, but, much nicer and earlier. I'll try and remember to drag those out next time I'm near that mess.

Saving the pix of yours and now that I'm typing this, I saved the pix of the other posted here that caught my eye. Not sure if I photographed the better one I found. I'll look, but, I know it went in a flip. Maybe even two were found.

I don't think you'll find one attributed but, here is where the Jefferson nickels are kept.

Here are the pix that caught my eye....

99.999% positive this one is an unattributed DDO.

I'm really too lazy to go hunt the guy down that posted it here and tell him he found a discovery nickel. Somebody probably should.

@Shelia Ruley it's cool you like those posts and all, but, do you think yours is a match to it? It appears to me it may be although I haven't put them side by side.

It appears this one may be earlier than yours. I know I found one MS and much earlier. I think the other one I found is low AU. Both are pretty thangs for sure.

Exactly, you don't see anything on that webpage. That is the page for all attributed 1979D Nickels. Notta, zilch zero.

    Here is the main site.

top blue about midway to get the pop-down.

    Now back to my question..........

None in the set registry sets either because none have ever been attributed.

Some of these end up like that when they’re struck.

The thinner points of the star have been worn away.

And she’s not stuck with it. That’s a point we should emphasize, too. If she doesn’t like it, she could take it to the U.S. Mint, and they’ll give her her money back.

    Because it's double died :dead::dead:

Oh wait no.. I take what I said back.
It's just Circulation damage and Mechanical Doubling :yack:.. Just worthless doubling.
