My Father gave this to me to examine and see if it has any value, I'm not sure it does. I've done a little research and can't find anything like it, I've found other bills with ink errors, but nothing quite like this. It's a 2 dollar bill, slightly beat up, circulated until my grandmother found it and put it in a box way back in the early 80's. As you can see it's got a green streak running though the bill, you can see it on both sides. Any ideas? Thanks for your input.
You don't think the color looks like the numbers/Dept of Treasury ink? Just faded a bit? I think it does. To me it looks like a roller of some kind passed over the bill, marring both sides. But I don't know anything about the printing process. I did find another example of an almost identical mark on a EBay listing, although far smaller, and of course on the listing there is no expaination as to what it is, only calling it a "ink smear". But the fact that two seperate bills have the same mark, it may be the same kind of error. I'll so some more research.
It looks close but I think it’s a different ink from that of the BEP. I can’t think of anything in the process that would cause that kind of smearing.
The wheels the keep the sheets down on the feeder board and deliver would make a mark like that if the operator pulled out the sheet to take a look checking the numbering. It happens, don't know if it raises the value? That would be on the buyer.
