That is severe damage post mint. What makes you think it is an error?

I would recommend that some reading on the minting process, how coins are made and how dies are created, would benefit you, as it has many others. There is some wonderful info contained here to get you started

The biggest error is that you put these blown-up pics of this coin in front of our faces and forced us to look at such a messed up coin. I'll never get that sight out of my eye balls.

All kidding aside, that's just damage. There are no errors there unless they're covered up by the damage.

Keep searching and keep posting, please, and also review the info posted by @expat .

PMD= post mint damage. That damaged cent looks like a parking lot find.

If you're going to look for errors, it would be a good idea to learn about the minting process as @expat said. There are finite ways that errors can occur during the minting process, but there are infinite ways that damage can occur while coins are in circulation.

If you find that searching for errors is appealing to you, you might want to purchase a book on errors such as this one. It is not so much a price guide as it is an identification resource. Mr. Herbert (R.I.P.) takes the time to explain how they occur.

The error was the act dropping it in a parking lot.

The ONLY error I see on this (?) coin is the fact it got caught between a rock and hard spot and LOST THE FIGHT!

Welcome @Beauart12. Thanks for posting the photos in Full Image as it really helps.

You asked and you got the correct answers. PMD. In the three months you've been a member here, I would hope you have been following many of the posts to see how the site works. Learning about the minting of coins would be of great help in you determining what could have left the mint that way and is a possible error.
    Good luck in the future.

PMD. As you get use to the agony, the one thing you can look forward to is getting even with a great new find, and believe me, it will happen. Thanks for the post, good luck
