This dime that I have found has no mint mark and the 1975 is running off the side of the dime, along with the "We". Does anyone know if this is rare or just another coin.

My camera will not take good enough pictures to see the details. It may very well just be another coin. I just read some things about a 1975-S dime with no "S" and was hoping this could be the coin.

There is a 75 Proof dime with no "S".

Philadelphia mint marks will not be present on dimes until 1980 which would probably explain the lack of mint mark. as for the date and "we" running off the edge I would assume that the devices were not struck very well. The dime is the thinnest coin made in the United States and I associate that as being the reason its somewhat common to find dimes that have dates such as 197* or The motto might read "n god e trust"

still would love to see pictures

I just compared the dime in my hand to a 1975 dime with the s printed. The dime that I hold Looked identical to the dime in the picture only without the s. The 5 is run along the edge just as this coin is below. and the w in "We" is also right along the edge.....

Need pictures of actually coin to be able to tell you for certain. Is there a wide rim on the top of your coin? One possibility is off center strike (which you will have a wide rim on top). with your description of running off the side that is the fist thing I can imagine

ok well so far there is no such thing as a no "s" 1975 so you might as well just send it in and show them your new discovery

theres three known years of no "s"
    1968 THESE
    1970 ARE
    1983 PROOFS

    then theres a 1982 no "p"

In comparison to another 1975 P dime the rim is really quite thin.

Dimefreak, there IS a 1975 "no S" proof dime. In fact there are two of them. That's it, just two.

Without seeing the OP coin, most likely it is a regular Philadelphia business strike with the usual weakness around the rims. Possibly also wih a misaligned die.

Anything below 1980 I believe had no mintmarks other than "S" or "D". It sounds like you have a normal dime that was made in Philadelphia. When the dime was being created it appears the die was on it's last leg (hence "weak die").

If I am wrong I will be the first to admit it..hoping I am not :)

    1975 dime with no mint

I also have two 1975 dimes with no mint present and the w in "we" is running off the edge along with the 5 in "1975. I have pictures but I have no idea how to post them here but i can email them to anyone to look at.

Unless they are proof they are just normal dimes.
