I came across this cent in my collection. I appears to have been stamped with "UT" inside a shape of the state Utah. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this before or knows anythign about it.
First welcome to CT. It's called a counter stamp. Most consider it a novelty item. Not much value added to it.
utah state penny i too have one of these pennies, and was also wondering if it has any value other than its face value.
I have a few of these as well. Someone told me that there was a member on here at one time that found a whole roll of these and each penny had a different state on it. I have AZ and I think WV.
That is a commerative coin celebrating the last time the University of Tennessee beat Florida. GO VOLS !!
I realize that these counter stamped Lincolns do not add much value, but they really are rather collectible, and I always keep one whenever I find it in circulation.
i saw a whole 50 state collection of counter stamped cents at a flea market one time, i forget how much the guy was asking for it though.
Those are so mundane, why not get your own stamp and stamp every cent you find. here are some interesting designs, think of how many will find them and bring them here for identification. I like the tri-swirl "Radioactive" stamp. http://www.pjtooljewelry.com/new.aspx
I'm getting the .999FS stamp for all the cents that I put back into circulation. I wonder how many posts those will generate.
How about on the obverse, "Your tax dollars at work" and on the reverse, "Here, you can keep this". Chris
