A slight Misaligned Die Strike. Not an Off Center Strike. It's actually a common issue on many early 1970's Cents.
@PamR . It's because one side is off while the other is NOT. That's how I tell. These somewhat common errors occur when the hammer die is off centered, but the coin sits correctly in the chamber. The anvil die strikes a normal strike (centered), but the hammer die comes down off-centered.
Thanks for explaining. I admit I did not read as well on this one but I think you figured that one out. Ty!
Meow only keeps the ones that affect the design. In 3 years plus of CRH, Meow has only found one coin like that. It was one quarter out of approx 100k in CRH.
That’s a MAD, misaligned die strike. An off centered looks like this. The top one is considered slight and the bottom one is off about 60%. Hope it helps you to see these Pam.
Sooo cool! Thank you. Just maybe I’ll find one.. lol. Lots to look through!! I told hubby do not throw any around there lol. That’s another area. A lot of 97,98,99 shiny ones. Y’all want to have a look through convention lol?
LOL, I know. Hey, I just posted a ragged clip cent. It’s like a blow hole but it broke through the rim.
