I buy a half dozen or so DDO/DDR raw Lincoln cents a week off Ebay, typically the 72's turn out to be minor varieties and pretty much match what I pay for them. Then this one came along, this coin is as close as I've ever seen to be a FS-104 and would like some input on it.
There's no question it's one of the DDOs. Just comparing the date to the 104 on coppercoins.com (https://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1972&die_id=1972p1do004&die_state=eds), it doesn't appear it's that one...
Wow! Thanks, Steve Hill! Usually when folks state a coin has doubling, I usually do not see it, and then I feel like I'm an idiot or I think there's something wrong with my vision. I failed to see any doubling with the date, but I clearly saw it on your other photos. By the by, thanks for sharing and now I'll have to double check the '72s I have.
I've been comparing it with Variety Vista and have narrowed it down to 104, or 107. The date and IN GOD WE TRUST are similar between the two, but the B in liberty on mine is screaming 104. There is about a $500.00 difference in value between them in AU RB so I'm looking for opinions before I send it to PCGS. 104's are quite scarce.
But your date doesn't match up to the 104. The dates don't have to be doubled, but they have to match up. Think of it in that sense, as a marker. Every one of the 104s have a date exactly as shown in the listings.
Thanks for your input, I may be blinded a little by wishful thinking but not giving up on it just yet. I like my date better than yours, lol, has a nice little split at end of top loop on nine, and correct horizontal line toward bottom of 2.
-004 has some very distinct die markers. Please give us some good obverse and reverse full size photos. I am not convinced. Looks like a -002 to me.
