Found this one while I was searching a roll of pennies and I noticed that the S mint mark was really close to the date. is that normal?
Nothing uncommon the mint mark in that error wondered all over the place. Cool find none the less. Dusty
Probably not by itself what I do is I have a folder that I put all the little things like this that I find. I figure as one they are not worth a whole lot but maybe as a while they would be. Dusty
For future reference, how can I tell if it's a small date? Also, how uncommon are the small date variety?
They are pretty rare. I've plucked one out of the wild and have bought two. The best way to tell is the curl of the 9. www.lincolncentresource.com has a ton of info. Dusty
Prior to I believe 1990, the dates were pressed into the die by hand, so the position between 2 mintmarks may be off, not an error. This is for the large/small date varieties. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/1970S1cSmAndLgDtCompare.htm
I believe you mean the mintmark was added to the working dies by hand, not the date. I See a normal coin. Keep up the hunt!
