Coin roll hunting and came across this penny and noticed doubling in the date I tried to get a good enough picture can any one give me some info on it? Is it actually doubling? Is it a large or small date?(I think it's large) grade???if it is doubled how much is a reasonable/good price for one? And any more info would be great!!! New time collector and still learning Thanks In advance!
No, it is machine doubling which is relatively common on this year. Notice the mint mark is also MD, which is normally a confirmation. Sorry .
Desertgem beat me to it--since doubling is also on the mm, which was added after the die was hubbed, that rules out a doubled die. Also the appearance of the doubling is a giveaway...
Ok thank you for clarifying! So it's worth face value? Or are there collectors for this kind? Thanks again
It's super common on US cents from the late 60s into the 70s--but yours is a good example to keep as a reference.
The proper term is Doubled Die not Double - quote "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology" closed quote I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die
