I was perusing my quarters and something(s) appeared different from the so-called norm. This Washington quarter weighs 5.73g rather than the typical 5.68g of the day. Also, when I was checking the ridges I find this coin has much less copper content than the usual. This quarter dominates with the brighter silverish looking nickle, as they are presumed to be. Now, I do not know if you can discern the content of mixed metals in a coin by optical examination alone, but it is how oftentimes single out the silver coins from the rest when coinroll hunting. If anyone can educate me further on this I would be thankful!
Could be a counterfeit. Long ago, people would counterfeit coins, as they had some value, it was cheap and easy, and very few cared. Does it have a greasy feel to it?
There's that ugly word again (Is your scales Calibrated) That's what it is you know they have never agreed with anyone since I've been checking some of the threads. Take your quarter to a reputable Coin Dealer and have them look at it. Then you can know what you have.
