I decided to weigh a few of my half dollar coins and was surprised to say the least. Weight is 11.32 g. Should weigh 11.50 yes? From 1971 on 11.34 g. I'm hoping it is what it is but can't imagine how it could be on a planchet 4 years into the future. Is that even possible? It seems to be the right thickness.
The tolerance on the 1965 - 1970 is .400. Your coin is within that. https://www.cointalk.com/attachments/us-coins-weight-composition-and-tolererances-jpg.1257744/
Well, mystery solved. I learned something new again. That one is school of hard knocks!!! Lol Thanks Alurid
Thank you. Good thing I didn't do a happy dance and tell everyone I found biggest error and pat myself on the back....lol I will definitely reference this chart going forward.
What is the source of chart above? I see no credible source of the makers of the chart. Surely whomever created it would make themselves known inorder to be held accountable and/or receive acknowledgement for the time required for such a chart. Please provide source of the chart
So can we agree that it just as well not be credible? With the main reason being no legitimate maker associated with the chart. Side note: let's be open minded for science sakes, if a person put all the research that would be necessary for such a chart to be legitimate, can we all agree that that person, or company/agency, would certainly attribute themselves in some way to such a wide ranging study? I mean I personally would if it'd been me. Share your thoughts please
What even brought me across this post is I was searching the internet for existing 1967 Kennedy half dollars 90% silver. The reason I was searching for such a coin is I'm about 100% sure I have came across one. It weighs 11.3 grams. It is clear to me from viewing the side of the coin there is more silver content than any other metal, the other metal appears to be copper in color what small traces I could see. Has anybody ever heard of such a coin
There is no thought needed, someone put together a list of tolerances for ease of use. Better than searching the tolerance for each type individually.
No thought needed. Got it. Perhaps putting some amount of thoughts before posting something that is potentially misleading as the chart above would be wise. Something such as that is easily misleading to newer collectors, which I'm sure you know but you avoiding the question of can we agree it just as well not be credible is indication to me you obviously know it all. Perhaps this ninety percent silver 1967 Kennedy half is somehow post mint damage and not worth anything. Lol please forgive me. I'm bored today
I don´t care if you are bored or not. Posting your abusiveness towards me just leads to you being ignored.
Just do a little research on this Boneheads posts on CT, and you will find that he knows absolutely nothing about coins. Starting here a 90% silver half weighs 12.5. This guy needs to lay off the drugs, or sauce. Yeah you @Vincent White Just wondering did you just get off a 2 year suspension?
