I recently acquired a batch of pre-65 quarters at an estate sale. I believe this to be my best: The close-up of the "A" is from the reverse "AMERICA" and the "W" is from the obverse "WE". There is also a mark that runs from just below the "R" in TRUST on the obverse... not sure where that came from. And what is up with that mint mark? How would you define these? Thanks for entertaining my posts... hopefully this is a bit more interesting that my last two.
Cool JohnT! Here are my opinions: 1. Machine Doubled 2. Machine Doubled 3. Machine Doubled 4. Minor DDR 5. I have no idea! The mintmark in pic 1 appears to just be machine damage doubling. Whats dates did you get? I mean, not mecessarily these coins but from the sale?
The vast majority were 1964s, the majority of those being 1964-Ds. I also had a handful of earlier 60s. I also got a roll of pretty worn 40s, 50s quarters. Out of these, I have probably close to a dozen mint mark errors, a half-dozen-ish reverse doubling errors, and 4 Type B reverse dies (but no Type Cs, darn!). I may have more that have some potential, but I put them away... I burned a weekend looking at those quarters. I originally purchased these for scrap silver value, but the 64s were is such good shape, I figured they deserved a look. Thanks for the reply!
I bought about twenty pre 65 quarters a few days ago and In the group was one if the ones you got. Mine seems to be like the state quarter error that says "in god we rust" except mine is a 64 not a new state quarter. It didnt happen after the mint it's definitely a error
