Hi I was just curious as to if this was a minting error or not. Im pretty much new to the whole mint error thing, and stumbled across this today. The two parts marked by red are indented into the penny. IMAG0711.jpg IMAG07112.jpg

I'm not sure what you are seeing. The rims look a bit damaged, probably the result of being stuck in a dryer for a while.

Well the part in the forhead is an indent as well as the part right beside it. I wasnt sure if this could be a minting error that caused it, or if its post mint damage. Sorry I have a bad camera on my phone. Plus the letters looked a little off to me most noticibly the B in Liberty and the O in God.

I don't really know Lincoln varieties, but others will chime in soon. Welcome to CT.

I think it is a peeled lamination. Sometimes the mixture of the metal has "crud~ for lack of a better word" in it that when it is struck, pushes to the surface, separating a top portion from the mass of metal in the center of the coin. If the top section is thin enough, or well separated, it can flake or peel off leaving depressed areas where they once were. That is the best scenario. The worse is that something gouged out an area roughly, such as if the cent was on a crushed stone pathway and something very heavy zoomed over it. But I would go the lamination.

So if it is the best scenario, what would that do for it? Sorry I've been trying to search everywhere and this is the only place I came across that I might be able to find help with it.

Generally , an attached lamination ( the flap is still hanging there) can have a little extra value, but usually it doesn't affect it or decreases it. the grading services are not too pleased in them. I had a nice early date buffalo five cent which had the attached lamination and PCGS noted it and gave it no grade. Un attached, like yours, would probably fall into the "damaged" area, unless there is something there more interesting I can't see from the photo. Sorry.

I have a 1964 D penny that is double stamped on the front and the liberty is too far to the side and u can barely see the "l" idk if this is considered rare

Without images we'd just be guessing, but I would suspect that it was either a grease filled die or a worn die that caused it to look like that.

I just found a 1964 D this a.m. and it has a doubled 6 that the top stem of the 6 is completely separated and also the b in liberty has doubling on the left side of it, with other multiple letters and #'s have visible lines on them. I want to know if anybody has ever heard of this combination of anomalies on a 64 D before I put any pictures online, because I am not new to hunting errors, and believe this to potentially be a great new find. I've never commented on this sight before so I don't know if I will be notified some how by comments or if I need to keep checking this page

Read post #15 and #16. Having your own thread avoids confusion over whose coin you're looking at. The L query addressed, this was a common result for cents in this time period, not an error.

I have 350 1964d pennies. I see some on website that are very expensive and I see nothing special. How can I tell if any of mine are valuable?
