I’m wondering if this penny holds any value? I’m not sure if I’m seeing real doubling or just machine doubling? Also, the coloring is somewhat rainbow colored, although it’s not showing up great. Just curious. Thanks!!

Hello! I don't see any doubling here. The coloring you see is called "toning". I value this coin at about 20-30 cents. Hang on to it and "Bag" it in a 2x2 holder for safe keeping. ;)

Coin collecting gives me a headache! I have a TON of old coins that I inherited and I’m really close to just throwing them into my coin jar.

You seem to be a very young person. If you become at all interested in coin collecting you are sitting on what most collectors would love to have - a hoard of unsearched coins.

It was common to see the B a little out of proportion from the rest. These were the last year of the Wheat Back dies, the devices were often touched up in different years to prolong a master dies life. This left some working dies that looked a bit different but were not considered an error or variety.

Circulation hits can also. cause the smooshiness look.

Suggestion.. Ask you possible error or Variety questions over at the Error Coins forum of CoinTalk.
Find out what you have first. Worry about premiums afterwards. BTW.. Most minor errors and varieties have little or no premiums. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Well, thanks for the compliment but I’m actually 40 years old! Coin collecting is difficult… there’s a lot to learn and so many aspects to it.

What I see is a tiny amount of die deterioration doubling caused by overuse of the die, which caused it to expand a tiny proportion. A normal situation, so no real increase in value. As that continued, it was usually followed with other deformities. I think every one hears this as they start paying attention. :) Jim
