I'm not kidding this is the color of the coin. I took the pictures at an angle to (try) and capture the colors. I think it was stored with some sort of sulphuric material. I do keep this coin in a sealed holder to avoid cross contamination. Take Care & Merry Christmas Ben
Ben,the condition of this coin is terrible, but I like the design of the 'Totem Pole Dollar',as this piece is also commonly known as. The design was very unpopular with the Native Canadians in British Coloumbia, because the raven (at the top of the totem pole) is a symbol that represents death. Aidan.
It doesn't really mean anything. Adian's comment about the popularity of the coin was accurate, the coin was not well liked because of the design. The design was copied from an Indian totem pole and on the totem pole was carved a raven, which to the Indians was the symbol of death - thus the name of the coin. That's about all there is to it.
That's a pretty good story behind the coin. I'll have to get one. I have a number of canadian silver dollars, but not this particular design although I've seen them around. Canadian coins in general are fairly inexpensive compared to their US counterparts even though many of the mintage numbers are quite low.
I know:secret: I've been buying whenever I can from the dealer in town here Take Care & Merry Christmas Ben
