I was very impressed with how much these little tokens sold for on pebay!! I call ebay pebay because when you sell on there you are robbed for much of your profit! I was bidding on them myself but I'm not willing to pay so much money on such a small coin. Some people call these little guys coins but they're actually tokens which are showing the Indian Chiefs of Venezuela from the 16th century. Just a hair bigger than a Mexican Dos Pesos coin at 14mm each. Beautiful looking pieces! That said, I'm hoping to see bigger examples but I don't know if there will be any, time will tell... Also, I don't have one of those thick a$$ World Coin books but I know someone here does, hint hint. I was able to win Sorocaima, I hate that word "win" but that's how I got it on ebay and the premium wasn't too bad as it's basically a 1/10th gold token at 18mm and 3 grams. That's the top pic! Supposedly all of these were minted in 1957 but I don't know if that's true as most don't have a date. Someone paid a total of $93.51 and an additional $2.95 to ship Tamanaco. I really wanted this one but when you consider resale value it didn't work for me. The bottom two pics weigh in at only 1.5 grams. The bottom token is Urimare and this is another one I really wanted but again, resale thoughts kept me from bidding any higher. Urimare sold for $85.99 and $2.95 to ship. I'm hoping by posting this information bidders start bidding less for these little gems but I wouldn't be surprised if my thread here backfires and makes the prices go up. On pebay, you never know!
Guessing probably because they are so small and probably put in gold bezels for pendants for jewelry. The girl faced 1 is cool.
Yeah, I bought a Chicauramay brooch to wear on my hat. That said, I haven't put it on my hat yet, as I don't want to forget my hat and lose over $100 for being forgetful. Oh, I forgot to mention, there I go again, forgetting. These tokens are 22k gold and the bezel for this one is 14k. Sellers pics, all of them.
Yeah, good eye Chris and you're right! Yeah, that one looks shabby, another reason I'm glad I didn't bid higher. Some of these tokens were made in Caracas and some in Suiza=Switzerland?? I'm thinking it's better to buy the ones that say Suiza but I'm just guessing here.
Here's one I missed out on, Terepaima. Glad I did, too much money! The smaller tokens charge a huge premium over spot but the other sizes like the 3 gram size and up, can be had for a few dollars over spot. Once my new one shows up I'll post it. I thought this one here is pretty cool, but it sold for way too much moola.
I have a gold Cacique given to me as a gift when leaving the employment of a company based in Venezuela where I was working in the summer of 1981. It weighs 7.65 grams and is 26.3 mm in diameter, as closely as I can weigh and measure it. It is in extremely good condition, having never been worn as jewelry or carried. It was bought new by my company at a jewelry store in Maturin, Venezuela, and I still have the box it came in. Has anyone seen this exact coin? I haven't heard anyone mention a Cacique of this particular size, although it certainly is within the broad range of sizes that I have seen reported that they were minted in. Also, the reverse is a type that I never have been able to find a duplicate image of anywhere. As to the date of minting, I can only say that I was given this in the summer of 1981, so it was minted before that. I probably will be selling this one soon. If anyone has some additional information on this exact coin, let me know. Here are some images of the coin that I have, scanned on a flatbed scanner. Also attached is an image of the jewelry box it came in. Thanks in advance, Don Lorenzo
Hi Don, Welcome to CoinTalk! Yes, I actually posted a couple of threads on these Venezuelan Beauties but like you said, you got no response. I've been on this forum for almost 10 years and that's the way it goes, not too many people are interested in non-US coins especially gold because the liquidity factor is a bit more difficult to sell in comparison to American Gold Eagle coins. That's just the nature of this hobby! Below is a coin similar to yours, not exactly but good enough for you to see how much it's gonna sell for. The seller is well known from Florida, I bought from him a few times, but most of the time his coins sell for top dollar and I don't always want to pay top dollar for obvious reasons. I suggest you look around on this forum, don't be in a hurry to sell, unless of course you gotta have the money! My point is, you can actually list your coin in the for sale section after you have 10 posts but like I said before, most of the gold coin collectors prefer US gold coins, so it may be hard to sell here on CoinTalk. Ebay is a ripoff, but the good thing is your coin was a gift, so you could sell anywhere you want. good luck! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-GOLD-...328140?hash=item341322828c:g:nEAAAOSwhN1deAXz
Thanks, Fretboard; The eBay link was very helpful, as that was the first time I had seen any Cacique of the same size and weight as mine, and also the first time I had seen a Cacique with the same reverse side image. I will definitely track that auction to get an idea of interest in the coin. Many thanks for the reply.
It's got nothing to do with Venezuelan people, the reason is because I've come across some shoddy gold tokens that have come from Caracas.
