Found this in one of the coffee cans full of silver dimes I have sitting around. Whats the technical term for this error and any added value?
How' it get the impression of the reverse on it though? And how R in liberty is stretched out. It' also kinda looks like it' double stamped and there 2 rims on the bottom right Here a better pic with more contrast
As mentioned, it's a damaged coin, worth only the silver melt value. However, I do see the impression on the coin you're talking about. It looks like it got smashed together with another coin when it was in a vise or whatever caused the damage. That does indeed look unusual and a little interesting, but I'm afraid in this case it's just post-mint damage and not a mint error. So an oddity, yes, but not worth any numismatic premium.
Thanks. I was thinking that but still struck me as odd how there seems to be a build up of extra material on the bottom of the coin or something. Just looked different from the examples I was seeing of the fakes
