1951 wheat penny that weighs 2.4 grams, could it be a mint error?

What are the diameter and thickness? Is the other side there? Is your scale calibrated? Try some zincers on there.

Maybe someone cut the coin in half, emptied the inside out, and glued it back on:) just a guess.
No, serious guess: Maybe calibration error?

What does the reverse look like? It could have been struck on a rolled thin planchet.

Picture of the coin is not sufficient to make a judgement of the surfaces. Five possibilities, scale error, acid soaked, split planchet, rolled thin planchet, foreign planchet. Not enough data to make a determination.

This penny is the same size as every other penny, only difference being is in its thickness

The thickness is uneven. Where a small area appears to be equally thick as a normal penny and then there is a portion of it that us pretty thin.

It is missing "we trust" on the obverse...

Is that 3 tail pointing SW? I need a better pic of just the date :)

Looks like a normal date for the coin. Then again, there were no different 3s used for that year, so that is to be expected. :)

I finally figured out how to take a decent close up with my cell phone, I hope these can be of some help!

It almost looks like the missing weight might have been worn off, perhaps even from a planchet on the lighter end of spec to begin with?

Would you mind taking an oblique photo beside a normal (by weight) copper wheat cent, so we can see the edges? It would be nice to see the relative thinness of your coin, compared to a normal one.

From the images so far I think we may be looking at a tapered thin planchet.
