    Hey folks,
This quarter was in the 1950 S slot of a Whitman book my boy inherited from a family friend. Is that a D over S mintmark or is it post mint damage to the mint mark? Also, thoughts on grade would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Just noticing with the large images the monster die crack on George's neck... Looks like someone chopped his head off.

It appears to display the "shearing" so common on quarters of this era (and particularly those of the early 60's) but I see no remnants of an underlying S.

Thoughts on grade? I am worthless when it comes to grading Washington quarters.

    If it's not a 58 its a 65. IMHO.

    My, that's quite the spread...

Well a 58 will almost always be beautiful.
A 60 will almost always be ugly. IMO the spread will be big between au and ms.
    au 50 or ms 60 or 61
    au 53 or ms 62 or 63
    au 55 or ms 64
au 58 or ms 65 and up.
When someone says it's either an au 58 or ms 62. This just never sounds rite to me.
Anyway who am i ed wood? Lol
Edit i did just notice the dings in the right field. Those will jold it back from 65

I'd like to see better obverse photos first.

Thanks for the input. The Whitman book is filled with similar condition pieces. It belonged to a dear family friend whose wife gave them to my son.

    Maybe a D over D RPM?
I agree with MS but with the obverse a little weaker, I'll go 62.

    It looks MS to me.
