Is there any way to tell if a 39d Jefferson nickel is Type I or Type II if it is a well worn nickel? Just wondering if there are any other prominent die markers that could be seen on a well worn coin, other than wavy steps. Thanks, DC
Yes. Two months ago, somebody posted a thread that caused some members to be kicked off, which included lehigh.
Also on the (lettering?) the R-38 shows dainty-er /Compare with the R-40 . hope this helps,,,,Jim/chasindreams
Nagengast writes that the easiest way to tell the difference between the two reverses is to compare the subject coin to a 1938 proof reverse. You can see what a fully struck 5 step reverse from 1938 looks like. All of the reverse of 1938 coins have the characteristics of these proof reverses as they all came from the same hub.
Suspended, not kicked off. His suspension was over long ago and his further absence is solely his choice.
