I recently acquired this 1936 India Edward VIII fantasy crown proof. At first, I thought it was a Richard Lobel issue from 1984 as either X# 90a or 90b, but given the coin's reeded edge, I'm not sure if it's either. Krause's Unusual World Coins catalog lists the same design type as the Richard Lobel series, but each of those are listed as having plain edges. Was this a later strike? I'm not sure that Geoffrey Hearn made any for India in the 1950's, as they're not listed in the catalog. But, I've found in the past that catalogs have been wrong or omitted info completely, so you never know... The coin weighs in at 22.9 grams and fits my 38mm Quadrum snug. The coin came in the original blue leather and blue velvet presentation box (the typical snap shut, jewelry kind). There was no COA that came with it. Thanks in advance!
that reeded edge is throwing me off to. I saw 1 reeded edge on Ebay but it was in copper. link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDWARD-VIII...683223?hash=item2ca7608b57:g:-wEAAOSwLnlWngF0 could it have been silver plated ??? guessing here.
To add, I don't believe my example is a plated one. I've noticed that many plated coins in general, and perhaps all of the Richard Lobel plated offerings I've seen, have a very rough or bumpy looking texture to them signifying a plated finish. In 1987, there was a Duke & Duchess of Windsor version with the same reverse tiger design, and that one's reeded / grained (X# 92). Maybe Richard Lobel decided to pump out more of the '84 designs then. Here's an example of that on the 'Bay.
not sure if this helps ??? link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/India-1936-...539543?hash=item3600cb06d7:g:hBcAAOSwWntXM5kg has a 1984 Coincraft Issue on the slab. not sure that 1984 date helps you ???
I believe that's KM #90. What's interesting is the FM #47 that's shown on the slab's label. Not sure what catalog that is, but I'll have to check that out.
