1936 Buffalo Nickel ......."p" mint mark?

Discussion in 'What's it Worth' started by Inkcells024, Aug 20, 2015.

?

Sorta hard to see from the picture, but would that mark underneath the date be a "P" mint mark?

  1. Any history on the 1936 Buffalo Nickel would be helpful.

    100.0%
  2. Any value?

That's the designer's initial. James Earle Fraser.

You should get a copy of the Red Book.

Photo 2 doesn't change the facts. Believe us, it's the designer's initial. It's on all buffalo nickels. (unless it's been worn off)

    Just a side note:
    Your poll makes no sense.

Better to just ask the questions in your post.

Inky, I realize that you're new here, but once you've been around for a while, you will learn that any time Frank and I both respond to a thread, the OP will immediately be in trouble.

Info. on this nickel is 118,997,000 made in Philadelphia in 1936 which is where yours is from. Condition is about XF45, worth about $3 dollars whole sale. "F" is under the date for the designers initials- James Earl Fraser. These buffalo nickels were made from 1913-1938.

I am calming replying. It has an Indian on the obverse (front) and a buffalo on the reverse (back) of the coin. Is this the information you were asking for? ha ha

For Buffalo Nickels, the mint mark is under the "five cents" on the reverse. The P mintmark wasn't used except on war nics and in comparatively recent times.

I don't want to start any trouble, but for me the correct description is this - A Native American and an American bison.
