Found this little guy in a jar of coins. Tried to search up info on this nickel, but no luck. Any Info given about the history of the nickel and type of value or how would you grade this nickel?.. any info is helpful
Photo 2 doesn't change the facts. Believe us, it's the designer's initial. It's on all buffalo nickels. (unless it's been worn off)
haha everybody needs to calm down. I'm pretty new to this site and how it works, so calm down. As you can see I'm clearly just asking for information on the nickel ha
Inky, I realize that you're new here, but once you've been around for a while, you will learn that any time Frank and I both respond to a thread, the OP will immediately be in trouble. Chris
Info. on this nickel is 118,997,000 made in Philadelphia in 1936 which is where yours is from. Condition is about XF45, worth about $3 dollars whole sale. "F" is under the date for the designers initials- James Earl Fraser. These buffalo nickels were made from 1913-1938.
I am calming replying. It has an Indian on the obverse (front) and a buffalo on the reverse (back) of the coin. Is this the information you were asking for? ha ha
For Buffalo Nickels, the mint mark is under the "five cents" on the reverse. The P mintmark wasn't used except on war nics and in comparatively recent times.
I don't want to start any trouble, but for me the correct description is this - A Native American and an American bison.
