So I go out this evening to the local watering hole, and after purchasing a beer for the lady and myself....I get handed a 1$ silver certificate! I do double take, and realize that on the face of the bill there is a crease. When I "extended" the crease, there was no ink in the void. On the reverse of the bill, the printing is whole. Also, if you straighten out the bill, the paper is not perfectly rectangular. I will take pictures tomorrow to post here. I was wondering if this bill had any value at all. I mean, I'll keep it with the others that I have..... But I want to know if I got the beers for free?? It is a 1935 E 1$ Silver Certificate. Signatures of Priest and Humphrey?? Serial number Z 1411060 G The blue seal and Humphrey's signature are split. Thanks for any info you guys can provide.
i beleive what you have is called a 'gutter fold' ... pics would help good find! and certainly keep it, as printing errors frequently bring an additional premium!
Jeez.....Time goes by so fast lately. Anyway, I managed to get a pic of the dollar in question. I do realize that it is worn, but would like to know its approximate value. Any ideas?
Some Dad out there is going to be Pi**ed when he finds that note missing...LOL and just think, it was spent on a beer most likely, but what tops it off is that whom ever took that note did not eb=even pay attention to what it was..that is sad! Good for you that you received it... I am not an error specialist, but a few here are. I agree with Daggarjon that a premium will be added to that note dispite it's condition. RickieB
Yup, It's a gutter fold and will draw a premium. How much depends on how much the buyer wants to spend. Good eye! clembo
i as well an no error expert. But i would think the error would fetch more of a premium then the note iteself. Nice find for sure!
Thats the first thing I thought. ....some one spent it without permission I do know the bar, as well as the wait staff there. They all couldnt understand what i was so interested in. I plan on keeping the note.... Was just trying to get a grasp on its worth. Thanks Everyone
do a search on Ebay, Heritage or other auction sites under gutter fold. I am sure that will help a great deal in your dertermining value
Could be a collector didn't notice and put it back in circulation. I used to put 1957 $1 Silver Certificates and 1963 $5 US Notes back into circulation all the time just for fun. Still do every now and then! Typically I would have extras when I bought a group of notes just to get 1 or 2 of value I'd want. For example, I bought the following set of 4 notes for only $12.50 a few years back. Can you tell which one I kept and which ones got spent.
I meant, maybe they didn't know it was a gutter fold. Never had one, so I don't know if that's something someone could miss.
How about that!! http://cgi.ebay.com/1935-a-1-dollar...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 I'll keep my eye on it and see if it sells. I wasnt expecting to see it for so much.
you got that right - make sure it sells at that price. One thing about Ebay, most buy-it-nows are set a bit higher then what its worth hoping to catch that want-it-now buyer.. not all, but imho, most. Im not saying the note isnt worth that much.. i honestly dont know.. but with a buy-it-now, it makes me think about the price.
