Some guy just happened to win this at a poker game and brought it to sell to the Pawn Stars...anyone watched? I could attach a screenshot here but don't know if I'm allowed
Posted in wrong category could it please be moved to US Coin forum @Peter T Davis @LostDutchman Thanks
I saw this too. Must have been a high stakes poker game!! Beautiful looking coin. Too bad they couldn't strike them all in high relief.
Seems like a publicity stunt to me. Nobody with that coin would loose so much by bringing it to a pawn shop. Was it a known graded example?
I've been to the shop in Vegas. Everything is staged. It's a staged reality show. There are no surprises. When Rick says in the intro, "You never know what's going to walk through that door," he actually does know. Lol.

Well after seeing the coin 80 doesn't seem too bad. That coin is clearly rubbed on but still a magnificent rarity. I wonder if this is one of their ANA show suckers?
He does, you don't. So he's right when saying "You never know what's going to walk through that door"
Is 80k fair for the coin? NGC expert said it's worth more than 50k, but less than 100k, did Rick buy it for 80k hoping to maybe sell it for 90k? 12.5% is usually not a good margin for a pawn shop, is it?
I honestly think that 80k is where it belongs, but it's rare and desired enough to start a bidding war.
Rick never owned it... I guarantee it was set up for the show. The NGC slab number for this coin has been deleted out from their database. I would bet that it came from a big dealers inventory... Or advanced collection... Maybe even an auction company. Made the show appearance and was reholdered with a different serial number and is back in the inventory/collection it came from. I like the featuring of numismatics... But I can't stand the fake stories and set up scenarios they use to exhibit them. All for the ratings.
It means submitted for regrading. Reholdering does not change the number. It didn't upgrade with the resubmission though, still a PF-61, but now with a Pawn Stars custom label.
