    Hi Currency Experts,
I have a friend who asked me about the value of a bill he has. I don’t have pictures, but he describes it as a $10 gold certificate from 1922 that his grandfather had. I know these are quite common but his is a star note, which seems to be less common. It is ungraded, but has some visible folds and a tear on the edge that was taped years ago.

I just want to give him some guidance on value but haven’t had any luck in price guides or eBay records. Anybody have an idea of ballpark for value on this?
    Thanks!

As I'm sure you know condition is everything so a value depends on that, signatures, etc. You told us what it is so going by your description and no photos I would guess in the $50 range for poor but in better condition, maybe a few hundred.

Have to see a photo because condition is key but $150-$250 is not uncommon and the star can raise that. Here is a bad photo of mine. It's not this wrinkled in hand.

Probably $200 or so, minimum, depending on the tear and the tape damage - tape doesn't help. Not sure why folks insisted on using it...

This assumes it is a true 1922 star note. And not a regular note and they are misinterpreting the trailing arrow character as a star...
