1921 Standing Liberty Quarter?

I recently purchase this dateless Standing Liberty Quarter with some other coins. I didn't think much about it until it arrived and I noticed the last digit is partly present. "Looks like a 1" I thought. I'm not very familiar with Standing Liberty Quarters so I went to the Red Book to see if I could determine if it was a 1921 or 1931. After flipping to the appropriate page I discovered that there aren't any 1931 dated quarters. Then I realized for the first time that 1921 is a key date of this series.

So the question is, is it? I'm glad I came to my conclusion before I knew that 1921 is a key date because otherwise I'd be more likely to "see" things that aren't there. But, I'm still not 100% sure. Like I said I don't know this series very well. What do you think?

I'm thinking it could be a '21 also. If it came back as P01 or FR02 it could actually be worth having it slabbed. They do date certain dateless coins when the evidence is indisputable. The issue I think you'd encounter is, I think it would come back as Environmental Damage (ED).

I have sent a few looking for that grade PO1 or FRO2 they came back in a body bag. I have a few more thinking bout sending them in also. Good luck whatever you decide.

It's been cleaned for sure. The field to the right of the shield has a dull shine. If I do send it in all I'd want is 1921 on the slab.

It's not clear that's a 1. Were it, it should be shifted over to the right more. I get the condition issues but that doesn't excuse a wild guess. It's unfortunate we can't bring these dates out like we can the Buffalo Nickel dates.

    I'm thinking it isn't a 1921 now.

Your coin is worn and you’re comparing it to one that is not. Look where you drew the line. You’re focusing on the date. Look at Liberty’s dress. It’s shifted from one photo to the other. The top of your line does not run through her dress at the same point in both photos.

I'm trying to show the that the position of the 1 doesn't look quite right.

    I fixed it:

I get that but I’m looking at more of the worn design than just the 1.

The worn design isn't going to shift the 1. I think that's what he and I are trying to point out.

Good illustration putting those lines in so we could line them up. I tried to do that in my crop but the lines kept coming out crooked. :D However if we know what we're looking at we could see it, help from lines or no help.

No it won’t but the edge of Liberty’s dress is out of alignment if you align with the 1.

I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? In the top picture, of the genuine 1921, the 1 is on the right, and in the bottom picture, the apparition you're imagining as the "1" is on the left. You can't see that? He even drew us a line to help us.

Unless there was a die with a wildly different date position I don't think it's attributable as 1921. All of them on PCGS have the same position of the 1. Yours is quite far to the left.
