Post pics of both sides so we can get an idea of where it may grade.

Die cracks are so common on Morgan dollars, that most do not warrant assignment of a VAM. The dies were subjected to as much as 150 tons of pressure psi, so die fatigue occurred regularly. A die crack would have to be very significant with metal displacement, like the 1888-O Scarface, to warrant a VAM.

First, ALL Morgan and Peace dollars are VAM's. As a rule, VAM-1 is assigned to a normal coin. The list of VAM's for the 1921-D is very extensive, and it would be impossible for me to determine which one you have without examining the coin in hand. With that said, here is the link to the 1921-D listing from VAMWorld. Have fun!

Lot of distracting marks on Liberty's cheek and chin, long scratch on the reverse from top 1 o'clock down across the eagles left wing, plus the chatter over TA in STATES on reverse.

If that grades MS, it will be low MS.

    I think AU.

Looks like it could be a VAM 1W:

AU=About Uncirculated, and $35 is not a bad price as these range in AU from $30 - $38.

Actually the scratch that you are referring to on the reverse from the top 1 o'clock down across the eagle's left wing is actually a crack also it's not a scratch. It has not tale tale signs of a scratch. I am 100% positive that it's a Die Crack also. What do you think?

The way a scratch is, Is that the center of every scratch is excavated by some sort of object, Thus being that these have fill marks on this coin not excavation. Therefore they are not scratches. They look like that but up close with my 16X Loupe, I see where the metal rises up from the cracks.

JD, I don't think you understood his grading estimate correctly. About Uncirculated (AU) is the grading classification just below Uncirculated (UNC). More than likely, if he wasn't sure, he probably would have indicated something like AU/BU.
