I found this penny in with a lot of miscellaneous coins my father-in-law had. I,ve looked at it as close as I could and can't find a sign of the last number, although at times I think I see a ghost number. It doesn't look as if were scraped off, because it is too close to the edge and the "2". None of that seems to be damaged. Any information as to whether it may be a mint error? Possibly a grease filled error where the strike could not be completed. Almost looks like there might be a 1 there, just barely.

    I see a 3, 5, or 1. Sorry not much help.

It looks like it was probably an issue with the die when it was minted. The number does look like it's there to some extent. To me, it looks to be a faint 5.

No chance of that being a 2? Just asking.

3 or 5. But the 5 is more common.
They didn't make any 1922's in San Fran or Philly that year.

Thanks for all of your information. The number 5 seems to be the consensus.
Does anyone know when the number style changed? Especially apparent in the number 5.
