Attempting to find a VAM for a 1878-S Morgan missing hair below the M monogram, along with missing a point off the 4th right star, a slightly left "S" and a slight doubling of the "D" in dollar. Checked Vamworld, and could not locate the missing hair VAM. The coin is graded MS62 by NGC. Any ideas? S20190301_0006.jpg S20190301_0007.jpg S20190301_0008.jpg

This is a Parallel Arrow Feather (PAF) variety. Have you eliminated all others? Also, the broken star and the over-polished die (missing hair) are probably listed as markers, so you will have to read all of the PAF descriptions carefully.

I thought all 1878-S Morgan dollars were PAF.

Take a look at VAM-17. Your full coin images are a bit fuzzy so I'm not 100% positive.

Doh! You're right! I was thinking of the 1879-S. The 1878-S has the "Long Nock" & "Short Nock" varieties. TJ's looks like a "Short Nock".

You know, it's a good thing that my head is connected to my shoulders...…

    Thanks!

No worries. I really wasn't trying to call you out Chris, just trying to give accurate information.

Looks like VAM 17 to me, too. There are plenty of 1878 Morgans with a broken star point on the obverse. This was a result of a break on the hub. Since the hub makes several working dies, the broken star shows up on several different dies of all mints.
