Has anyone ever seen this on a 1878 CC Morgan dollar or any other coin for that matter. Looks like there is a piece missing off the bottom of the B in E Pluribus Unum.
These are done by VAM. The reverse die markers seem to match with VAM-9 You can match it up with this reference. The die chips in "we t" the die scratch from the O to the wreath and the broken 4th star are a match. 1878-CC VAM-9 - VAMWorld (ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com)
I hadooked at this VAM earlier and did t see it as a match. Also, none of the VAMs showed the B like on my coin
As mountain Man said the B could have taken a hit. The die could have been partially filled with debri. The strike could have been a little weak. The one positive thing is that the coin is a die match, and most likely not a counterfeit. As Potty dollar said the coin has altered surfaces making it look like a possible fake.
If you scroll to the bottom of the VAM page supplied by @Pickin and Grinin and click on the full coin images, you will see the B is the same there also
One thing is always a given in attributing coins, that is MM placement. If the coin is a Philly, then it is the date placement combined with a die marker.
