IMG_8954.jpeg IMG_8955.jpeg Hey guys so I’m just needing some help because I’m not real well versed in trade dollars, does this coin seem to be authentic and what would be a fair price to pay for something like this? What’s the value on it?

I wouldn't buy a Trade dollar over the internet, and would be hesitant even raw. What is the weight and diameter.
Some of the details look off compared to the amount of wear and circulation.

It’s not over the internet it’s from a personal friend, he just doesn’t collect coins and inherited it, and I don’t know enough about em to make a determination on authenticity or value

The thing that stands out the most to me is the lack of intricate detail.

Look at the stars, the small dots all over the surface, the denticles, the rim, the olive branch in her hand and the wheat sheaf.

If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Definitely fake guys! Weight was 21.6 grams and I certainly know enough that almost 6 grams off is no good! Thanks everyone!

Good call. Sadly, a lot of Chinese product has made its way into collections over the years. Trust your instincts when you view these old pieces. The engravers that worked at the mint were very skilled craftsmen. Any 19th century work that was produced by the US mint will not have that Warner Brothers cartoonish appearance.

Glad you discovered it before anyone paid for anything.
I was going to suggest that because it was friend, split the cost of having it authenticated/graded and offer him a fair price if it comes back as authentic.

I got here a bit late, the weight tells the tale! I was going to say there look like a lot of tiny metal bumps on the fields, and the reverse dentils from 12 to 4 look pretty bad. the more I look at the images the more problems I see.
