Dont think that we are all rude like zach. He enjoys it.
I do not think it is possible (or very very very rare) to have a coin with the reverse image on both sides from the mint. The coin in your ring should stay in the ring. It is PMD (post mint damage). No need to seperate it. Keep it like that, it's kinda neat!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. You know you want to.

That coin is a fantasy piece that was made outside the US Mint and after the prohibition on private coinage went into effect.

Not a coin, it is a "coin like" object made for use in jewelry.

its a fantasy piece BECAUSE it has the same image on both sides and when you enlarge your pic, theve never made a coin with the date below the eagle

if there were coins that had the same image on both sides from the mint that noone had tampered with and welded two coins or pmd'd it what would a coin like this be called....

A miracle. Minted by the Gods themselves.

It is without question a fantasy piece. First of all, the date is on the wrong side. Second, the workmanship (lettering, etc.) is far below the quality of a Mint product. Third, the coin looks corroded, but gold does not corrode.

So, I'm gonna dig this thread out because it's the reason I just signed up for the forum. I picked this up this summer for $2 while out looking for silver/ gold at some garage sales... thought it was neat. I was pretty sure I didnt stumble onto a "coin minted by the gods themselves (LOL)", but I still was wondering about it. I was curious about what it was until now... anyone know what it's made out of?

    Hi:)

Imho, it’s just a novelty item.
( some are made with real coins then plated)You can take it to a jeweler shop and they can test it if you’re interested. Also looks damaged from wear and tare.

Yes, it's call a fantasy jewelry piece. The jewelry trade may have a special term for them, but you would have to ask in a jewelry forum. It is just a mass produced blank with the same coin like design on both sides. That way the person assembly the jewelry doesn't have to worry about getting the right side facing out. They just worry about the rotation and then crimp the lugs down to hold it in place.
