Got this rare Token a couple of weeks ago, looks great but it has dirt and a bit of discoloration on it. Just wondering if I should take a chance of conserving it with Verdi-Care as I'm thinking of sending it in to be graded at some point. Or should I just submit it the way it is? Just wondering. Post civil war undated, 1869 - 1880 period, Philadelphia Pennsylvania token. Obverse: Grecian / Indian head left LIBERTY inscribed on coronet. Reverse: J.H. Diehl, Manufacturer of MEDALS, Nº. 728 Chesnut St. & WM. H. Key, ENGRAVER, Nº.12 Sth. 37 Th. St (William H. Key & John H. Diehl) Plain edge, 24 mm.
Leave it be. It's a beautiful token as is. Attempts at cleaning such minor "problems" might just ruin it. Bruce
Cool token Fret. I would be wary to try and "help" the condition. I think it would look cleaned when you are done.
Yes, guess I'll leave it! My concern is it's white metal and I don't want to chance getting hairline scratches on it, especially since I have zero experience conserving white metal!
Acetone in this instance will take all the patina off of the coin. I think even hot water would do the same.
