I found this coin MANY years ago in a cent roll. Just started to look thru my coins again and noticed something on the obverse. What do you think caused blobs?

It could be solder from being ex-jewelry.

It's just an altered coin, unfortunately.

That could be solder but it really doesn’t matter as it’s damaged.

I agree, even though they are fairly light for solder. The two blobs at 12 o'clock and 4 o'clock look like they might have anchored a pin for attaching it to clothing.

You'd think that they'd want to display the obverse.

It may be one from a set of two.

True. Whatever the case, it is damage.

Nice find in a cent roll. Too bad about the damage.
Try some acetone, you never know. The reverse looks good.
If it is solder, some slight heat could melt it off but that's risky.

You found that while ROLL HUNTING? That is an incredible find!

In this condition it is worth only a few dollars, but if you found that roll hunting, there is no telling what else you can find.

One thing: do you remember if it was found in a Fed roll or a hand-wrapped roll?

Yes, found it in a roll of cents which I got from a bank in the 50's or 60's. It probably was a hand-wrapped roll. The reason I remember it was in a roll because it was the first (and last) 3-cent piece I ever had.
