The first note is fake. Genuine notes are not all one color.

Thanks for the info does anyone know of a book or web site that is good to learn about the older notes. I come across a good many but most I do not buy because I know there is a lot of fake ones out there. If anyone else has more info about the notes in pics it would be great

There are a few books out there that has colored pictures in them. If you don't want to buy them you can skim through them whenever you see them at a bookstore.

On the other hand you can always google and click images to see how a note should look like.

The first is a fake because there are many colors on that note.

I can't tell based on the pic of the second note, but look carefully at the ink of the signatures. That's one way to spot fakes.

Second one does not have anything on back that's why I thought it was fake. If I'm wrong about that let me know Thanks

Also, the first note is called a Demand Note just for your information.

The second note is probably fake as well.

The note does not have a reverse design. Although it's not as colorful as the first, it should have a light pink background.

These notes were also signed by hand. The ink oxidizes and turns brown after many years. But the ink on the note appears to be black. In addition the print appears to be rather low quality, especially around the portrait. But it could be the photo, so I can't say for sure about that.

Here are some photos of the actual notes:

The National Banking Act of 1863 was close to the time these notes were made.

You don't need both books. Look through them first and decide which one meets your needs.

I have that exact one dollar fake note. It has the same serial number and is on good quality paper. it must have come in the mail to my parents as an ad for, or along with, a civil war/ history book.
