can anyone tell me anything about this coin? How much is it worth? Is this a collectable coin? Thanks
A typical Victoria penny. Has young Victoria on the front. I'm not a huge british collector but I feel like these are pretty easy to get. I have a handful of these and haven't paid more than a buck each. This one is nice though, the shields a bit worn but Victorias head detail looks pretty good.
I don't know enough to know what the "mule" stands for. Might be a rare variety or something. More of an Aussie coin guy myself
Looks like NGC has it in the same ballpark; lots of varieties on the 1860 http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/...nny-km-7492-1860-1874-cuid-122828-duid-313909 The first coin posted doesn't look like a BB/TB when compared to the one listed as 'Fine' but not familiar enough with variety to be sure.
I'm not sure if you're implying you don't know what a mule coin is. If you are, a mule is when an obverse and reverse of different coins are somehow struck together. The US has the example of the reverse of the Sacagawea and the obverse of a Quarter: http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page21a.html
This coin is the common variety, toothed borders both sides. Seller's attribution is completely wrong.
The first 1860 coin shown above by BigTee44 is NOT a Mule. It is a TB/TB regular 1860 Penny. The 2nd coin by BigTee44, the one marked "Fine" is a BB/TB Mule example of the 1860 GB Penny. The obverse of the coin has round beads, and the reverse has teeth, which makes it a mis-matched pair of dies, or a "Mule"!
The previous post clearly shows the difference between the two 1860 Penny rims. The top is Beaded, and the bottom is toothed. These pics are from the 1860 Penny above, marked "Fine"! This is a 1860 "Mule" Penny. It is very rare R-17 in rarity by Freeman...6-15 known!
