I collected FE's for quite some time and have probably around a hundred - any way you can show a comparison pic of low leaves compared to a regular strike? I know about the SL vs the LL coins but they are pretty much the same price. I saw someone trying to sell a LL "low leaves" coin on the internet for 1000$ and they claim it is found in 1 of about 50 coins. I couldn't find any comparison pics.
Look at leaves by CENT High leaves are near the C & T low leaves are lower. Hope this helps, if not go to Rick Snow's web site
LIB, Thanks for that - I'll have to check my FE's tomorrow - tonight is the Browns game vs Cinci - oh the Brownies are gonna get so killed!
this is Snow's PDF page for Eagles an Indians u can download... http://www.indiancent.com/eerc_images/Top100.pdf
Nice coin. Yeah, a lot of people still don't know about those two reverses, and that there are actually four varieties of the 1858.
Is there such a thing as large letters high leaves? The one I purchased from David Lawrence seems to be that type. I haven't received it yet, but looking at the pictures he provided that's what it looks like. Maybe it's just the picture and I should wait to receive it before jumping to conclusions. I don't know.
Yeah, there are four, and that's one of them. Rick told me it in a PCGS thread on one of my 1858s. It's an old thread, maybe 5-6 years old. If anything changed, I don't know about it.
heres more on them if you dont have it .. http://indianvarieties.com/numismatic-research/flying-eagle-cent-hub-design-types/
Thanks for the info - I got many Small and Large dates - I just never heard of close leaf coin before - go figure!!
Don't feel bad. I have been collecting for a half-century and I just heard about it some five years ago in reference to an 1858 I showed off in the PCGS forum and Rick Snow had to tell us all about it.
