I was cleaning the house the other day and came across this pendant that my wife had received when she graduated college. She never wears it and I asked her in a joking matter "How about I take this down to the coin shop and sell it because its 10K yellow gold." To my surprise she said "OK... I never wear it anyway." So here we are! There are some interesting markings on the back of the pendant. It has a picture of what looks like a house followed by 1/5 10K. The pendant is slightly smaller than a half dollar and is non magnetic. I cannot bend it using my hands either. I know this is a strage request, but does anyone on Cointalk know what the house and 1/5 next to the 10K mean? I'd like to sell this thing for scrap gold to the local coin shop which has fair prices on gold. Thanks Back with markings: Front:
The fraction denotes that it is actually gold filled and is not solid 10 karat gold. It means that it is 1/5 of the weight of the piece is 10 karat gold. It means that 1/5th it would be 10k gold. 10k gold is 41.7% pure. It means that this piece is in actuality 8.35% pure. There isn't very much gold there.
Not much is right, but at current price of gold it doesn't take much even 1/1000 of an ounce is over $1.00, and I am not sure you will be able to see that much with the naked eye. And who knows how high it will go. I will hold on to it , at this point you will not get much more than a few dollars selling it for scrap, but in a few years who knows?
In a doomsday situation you might be able to trade it to some fool. I've held onto my scrap gold for just that reason.
Thanks for the replies! I figured it wouldn't be worth much considering she did get it for free and all.
