I like that your notes are consecutively numbered, which is proof that they are uncirculated. https://thesilverpicker.com/barr-notes-rare-banknotes-worth-money-hiding-in-your-wallet/
- That could be a very costly assumption. Just b/c serial numbers are consecutive does not mean they're "uncirculated." Many consecutive notes get folded in wallets & later put on market (unfortunately). I see so-called "UNC" notes online too often which are hardly UNC. If you look carefully at the backs of each note posted you will see wrinkles (ie: notes are EF to AU at best) -Not to me it doesn't. In fact, I expect a discount for UNC notes with serials in sequence (unless they're errors, older than 50 years or tough for some reason).
Straight-on shots usually don't show the wrinkles in a bill very well. A side lit shot would show up any folds or wrinkles. I always ask for a side lit photo when buying bills online (unless they are certified).
+1 The wrinkles show up on both the front & back, but especially on the back. These notes were in a wallet. My point is not to assume the notes are UNC b/c they're consecutive. It's a common (but costly) assumption.
nice notes, even though they were printed for a short time value has never caught up wither, would put those right up there with the 1957 Silver certificates in the way of value which unfortunately isnt that much.
People definitely hoarded these Barr notes at the time. I inherited a pile of them from a great aunt who saved almost $100 worth from circulation. Unfortunately, many wouldn't qualify as well preserved. But if she was hoarding them - she was never a collector - a lot of other people probably were also.
Canada has several hoarded series like this: 1867-1967 Commemorative $1.00, 1973 $1.00 & 1986 $2.00, to name a few. 12,000,000 of the Commemorative $1.00 were issued & so unusual to the public eye (+ cheap to keep) many people stashed UNC bundles. Today, 56 years later, you're lucky to sell an UNC example for $2.00 a piece.
Def worth more than face value. These are collectible. Generally $2-3 each, but yours in better condition are worth more.
I recently purchased a number of Uncirculated Barr Notes and I paid $6-$7 a piece for them.. I may have overpaid... But the person that I bought them from has always been easy to deal with...
Can't unsee that now... Thanks for the forever burnt into my mind image that I will now associate Barr notes with...
