I thought it could be a good resource for folks who are travelling, or who have recently moved, if we all list the absolute best coin shops in our general area. As for me, I live in Jamestown, NY. The best shops within 90 minutes from me are: 1)Harold B. Rice, in Buffalo, NY. He has the most inventory I've ever seen at a coin shop. When I ask to see Liberty Seated Dimes, he asks which decade. He has an entire box of anywhere from maybe 75 to 300 LS Dimes from each decade they were made. And his prices are very reasonable, and he often throws in a prize, like a free coin magazine or free 2 x 2's with each purchase. 2)PJ's Coins in Erie, PA. They also have a huge inventory, knowledgable, and very fair priced.
1. Blackjack Morgan, in Rochester. He has a good inventory of a wide variety of coins, slabbed and raw, gold and silver. 2. Ron Winter Coins, in Lyons, N.Y. Good inventory of commemoratives and sets from the Mint.
Treasure Island Coins, 538 E. Main St., Cottage Grove, Oregon, 541-729-2642. Small shop located inside an antique mall, but has a lot of inventory, not all displayed, so be sure to call ahead if you're looking for specific coins (they even have a 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set). Coins are priced right and they are always willing to bargain, and spend time with kids learning the hobby. I'm working a deal now for a 3 legged buffalo, but my favorite coins are the gold chocolate ones they have on the counter.
Bobs Coins on Kelley St in Manchester, NH. Shop is set up nice and they have a pretty good inventory. Also the owners are really nice and helpful. Only complaint is they can be a little on the pricey side, but they are usually willing to bargain a little.
The coinshop by my house tried to rip me off back when i was a total coin noob. I have not been back since lol.
Nearest town with a coin shop is Columbia, Missouri. About 40 minutes away. There are 2 shops. One is "Midwest Rare Coin and Jewelery" The guy who owns it is named Dean. I think the other one is "Columbia Coin and Stamp" or something like that. If you're in town and have to choose one to go to, go to the first one I mentioned for sure. Extremelely limited selection at the second one from my experience.
If you ever find yourself in the Lee Co. area of Florida, don't bother looking for any good coin shops. The ones here aren't worth squat. Chris
There are two coin shops I go to in Everett. Accent on coins where the people are sometimes pains in the arse, but I get great scores and finds with them. The other is Odyssey coin and Collectables, lots of WWII Memorabilia and the such, not the greatest amount of coins, but the people who work there are nice, let me go through their inventory with no hassle and are absolutely friendly. I love it there even though I don't get many great deals or scores on coins.
I live in mill creek and the coin shop by the name of "the coin shop" in lynnwood right off I-5 by Walmart absolutely blows the doors off both of the places you mentioned.....odyssey is okay but like you said not alot of selection and the guys at accent really can be horrible in the customer service dept but the coin shop has a ton of coins, the have a "discount" wall where they have good deals and they are always willing to talk to the customers and you can even bargain with them sometimes as well.....they also get a ton of people selling there so you can pick up modern commems if you like them for pretty much melt sometimes....give it a try as it is only 10 minutes away from the shops you are talking about. Just my opinion homie!
Oh wait it is called the coin market, not the coin shop....my bad.....and it is off exit 183 in case you were wondering.
Thanks for the tip. Maybe one of these days we can schedule to meet there. I gotta give that shop a whirl. I know another good shop is right there at northgate, they buy silver eagles above spot and junk silver just below spot and have an auction wall and I have been wanting to go back there and take a good look at their inventory. Nice guy working there too.
Yeah, I retired up here a few years ago from the SF Bay Area or as I say, “I escaped the rat race”. Lots of outdoor activities, two lakes and rivers for skiing and fishing, two resorts for snow skiing, lots of bike paths, 20 minutes from civilization in Eugene (home of the Rose Bowl champs, the Ducks), 1 ½ hours to the coast and lots of wineries on the way, 2 hours from Portland and Mount Hood. Lots of CA retires up here – I think the owners of the antique mall worked in the movie industry in LA.
yeah sounds good man I see you on here all the time so maybe we can hit it up sometime....only problem for me is that right now my days off are sundays and mondays and they are closed both those days so when I go it is usually when I get off work at 4...once summer comes around though I get season ticks for the seahawks and then i end up with saturdays off too which would probably work....where is that northgate shop?....i remember one time i wrote down the address and tried to find it and ended up getting lost....i'll have to give it a go if you say its good....i just went to the new bellevue rare coin shop that just opened in alderwood and was a little disappointed at the selection......u ever feel funny in the coin shops where you are the only person under 40 in there? I know sometimes that happens to me and some of the old-timers give me funny looks but mostly they seem glad to see that some younger people are interested in the hobby....take er easy man.
In the New Orleans area, my favorite shop is Gulf South coins. The owner Robert is a great guy very knowledgeable and has a pretty good inventory. Although it may very well be the messiest shop on the planet. There are some other high end shops Southern Coins and Precious Metals, Blanchard and James Cohen and Sons (who have been in business since 1898) are great. Southern Coins and Blanchard are by appointment only, but the high end inventory is worth the extra effort.
